Q. I have owned my home for 3 years and we tried our first two years to grow a lawn but were sadly unsuccessful. The biggest problem is the 40-50ft pine trees that cover and totaly shade our property. The first year we cut down ten(there were 60 on a 3/4 acre property) of them to allow more sunlight in so the others would be healtier. All the lower limbs had long since died of since the canopy is sooo high up. But l do not want to cut them all down for many reasons. One it is not cheep to have 50 ft trees removed because they have to be topped and two, I really do not want to loose that feeling like we are camping in our back yard. So with the combination of pine straw and shade we have had little luck.
