Schutz American School, Alexandria Information
The Schutz American School is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten (Early Childhood Program) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. It is the oldest American school in Africa, founded in 1924. The school year comprises two semesters extending from late August through mid-June.

Organization
The school is governed by a 13-member self-perpetuating School Board, serving renewable 3-year terms.
Curriculum
The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic and college-preparatory public schools. The school's testing program includes PSAT, SAT, Advanced Placement and other College Board tests and MAP tests. Instruction is in English. French and Arabic are taught as foreign languages beginning from grade 5. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the European Council of International Schools. John D. Luke is the president of the board of trustees.
Faculty
There are 45 full-time and three part-time faculty members in the 2011-2012 school year, including 31 U.S. citizens, 10 host-country nationals, and four were third-country nationals.
Enrollment
Enrollment at the opening of the 2011-2012 school year was 301.
Facilities
The school operates on two campuses - one for the elementary school (ECP-grade 6) and one for the middle and high schools (grades 7-12). Lighted sporting facilities include tennis, basketball and volleyball courts,and a swimming pool Other facilities include an auditorium, two libraries, two computer laboratories, an art center, and a cafeteria.
